Classification of Synoptic Patterns With Mesoscale Mechanisms for Downslope Windstorms in Korea Using a Self‐Organizing Map

چکیده

Downslope windstorms (DWs) are responsible for wildfires, wind gusts, and turbulence on the lee side of Taebaek Mountains in Yeongdong (YD) region Korea. We classified synoptic conditions YD using a self-organizing map (SOM). For windstorm events from 1979 to 2019, sea level pressure anomalies were used train SOM. It was found that patterns could be into three representative types: (1) south-high north-low pattern spring, (2) west-high east-low winter, (3) strong low-pressure system passing through northern part At 850 hPa, prevailing southwesterly northwesterly flows with warm cold advections dominant Types 1 2, respectively. And, Type 3 presented well-developed baroclinic cyclone. Adiabatic warming by downslope strongest 1, which likely have huge impact spread wildfires. Three mesoscale generation mechanisms examined under different patterns. DWs wave breakings at critical levels mostly occurred 1. This objective classification weather may improve predictions future projections this event, particularly light ongoing climate changes.

A new theory for downslope windstorms and trapped mountain waves

Mountain gravity wave theories often neglect the observationnal evidence that the large scale winds can become very small near the earth surface. This common shortcoming is related to the fact that mountain waves have a critical level near the surface in this case, making the problem extremely involved. We briefly expose here how Lott (2016) circumvents this difficulty and derive a theory where...

Statistical Modeling of Downslope Windstorms in Boulder, Colorado

Downslope windstorms are of major concern to those living in and around Boulder, Colorado, often striking with little warning, occasionally bringing clear-air wind gusts of 35–50 m s 1 or higher, and producing widespread damage. Historically, numerical models used for forecasting these events had lower than desired accuracy. This observation provides the motivation to study the potential for im...

Analysis of Mobile Radio Access Network Using the Selforganizing Map

Abstract: Mobile networks produce a huge amount of spatio-temporal data. The data consists of parameters of base stations and quality information of calls. The Self-Organizing Map (SOM) is an efficient tool for visualization and clustering of multidimensional data. It transforms the input vectors on two-dimensional grid of prototype vectors and orders them. The ordered prototype vectors are eas...

Hardware Implementations of Kohonen's Selforganizing Feature Map

In this paper we present a hardware realization of Kohonen's selforganizing feature map as a neural coprocessor connected to a personal computer (PC). We compare two concepts for this coprocessor, a vector-component-serial and processing-element-parallel array processor and a vector-component-parallel and processing-element-serial vector processor. Finally we give an overview about the whole sy...

Infrasound Propagation Calculation Techniques Using Synoptic and Mesoscale Atmospheric Specifications

Numerical modeling of infrasound propagation is necessary to support accurate infrasound source location and phase identification. Predicting the details of infrasound propagation relies both on propagation models that capture the fundamental physical processes and on characterization of the propagation medium, namely the global atmosphere from the ground to altitudes above 100 km. The accuracy...
